20apr18:0019:30BOOK PRESENTATION: "HISTORIAS DE CRONOPIOS Y DE FAMAS" BY JULIO CORTÁZAR

Event Details

As a part of Literary Wednesdays by the Estonian Writers’ Union the translators of Julio Cortázar – Ruth Sepp and Klaarika Kaldjärv – with an admirer of his work, the writer P.I Filimonov are having a talk dedicated to the publication of Cortázar’s short story collection “Cronopios and Famas” in Estonian.

“Cronopios and Famas” is one of the author’s most legendary and widely read works, this year marks the 60th anniversary of its original publication. “Cronopio is a drawing outside of frames, a poem without a rhyme,” as the author has defined in one of his interviews. The short fiction of the collection – like the works of Cortázar in general – are full of playfulness, absurdity, fantasy and genius. As well as practical tips, like instructions for crying or going up the stairs. Cortázar does not only play with reality but also with language and structure, certainly with the reader and the poor translator. Because of this the translation of his work is more demanding and maddening, sometimes also more intriguing, than usual.

“Cronopios and Famas” is published by Toledo publishing house and translated by Ruth Sepp with the illustrations of Allan Kukk. The talk will be held in Estonian.
