Pedro Calderón’s poetic comedy “The Phantom Lady” (La dama duende, 1629) is one of the gems of Spain’s Golden Age theatre. A witty and romantic cloak-and-sword play, it explores themes of love, freedom, and illusion with both lightness and philosophical depth.

At the heart of the story is young widow Doña Ángela, who finds clever ways to defy her brothers’ control and secretly meet the man she loves. The result is a theatrical journey filled with intrigue, playfulness, and emotion.

This is the graduation production of the 27th class of VHK Theatre School and Theatrum’s third staging of a Calderón play. The elegant Estonian translation is by August Sang, with live period music performed on stage.
